3D Building Information Modelling – Are you interested?

Updated: Aug 13, 2020

The University of Melbourne is looking for buildings to convert into a 3D Model. The aim of this project in particular, is to create tools that can work to minimise and/or eliminate disputes in Owners Corporations, where boundaries play the determining factor.

The most suitable buildings to apply would include buildings where architectural drawings are available and a current or significant history of these types of liability disputes have arisen. For example, but certainly not limited to, problems on balconies where ownership and responsibility to repair is being argued, removal of combustible cladding where the cladding is present on both private property and common property and the OC may be arguing apportionment of costs or any matters where the benefit principle is to be applied.

We’ve been advised the more complex the owners corporation the better, multiple OCs, mixed use etc. It’s a great chance to be part of research that will enhance your service offerings and improve the operation of professional strata managers.

Imagine a 3D image that once created, became an immediate resource to identify boundaries and avoid issues arising! It’s not too far away, we just need your support.

If you would like to find out more, with a view to volunteering one of your OCs then submit your expression of interest to Jihye Shin at jihyes@student.unimelb.edu.au or Mohsen Kalantari mohsen.kalantari@unimelb.edu.au at The University of Melbourne by 14 August. Read the Cooperation Request Letter below.
