Pool and Spa registration deadline extended

The Victorian Government has extended the deadline requiring owners to register their pools and spas with their local council from 1 June to 1 November 2020.

Last December, Victoria’s Building Regulations changed to ensure child safety in and around pools and spas by requiring owners to comply with new registration, inspection, maintenance and compliance requirements. The deadline extension is in recognition of the significant impact the coronavirus (COVID- 19) pandemic has had not only on Victorians, but the operations of local councils. This extension will give homeowners more time to meet their registration obligations in these challenging times.

In addition to registering their pool or spa, owners are required to have a registered building surveyor or inspector certify the compliance of their safety barrier every four years. The dates for owners to lodge their first certificate of barrier compliance with their council have also been extended.
